Metallica is coming to the 51st edition of Pinkpop in 2022! On Friday 17 June, the band closes the festival on the Mainstage. Earlier we were able to announce the arrival of Pearl Jam and Nothing But Thieves. With the confirmation of Metallica for the first day of the festival, we unfortunately also have less good news; the Red Hot Chili Peppers are no longer coming to the 51st edition of Pinkpop.
Tickets already purchased for Pinkpop 2021 remain valid for Pinkpop in 2022. Ticket sales for the 51st edition of Pinkpop will resume on Saturday 2 October at 10.00 am, via www.ticketmaster.nl. Those who have applied for a voucher will, as promised, be given priority. They can therefore redeem their vouchers before 2 October and are still personally informed about this.
Pinkpop 2014 has gone down in history as one of the most ‘heavy’ editions of the festival ever. Great heavy rock acts on the poster, but also a weather alarm in Limburg on Monday 9 June. The storm forced the audience to hold their breath before Metallica could close the festival in a grandiose fashion. It was already the second triumph for the American band on Pinkpop, because also in 2008 James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, Lars Ulrich and Robert Trujillo made a deep impression. And then the world came to a standstill due to Covid-19. But don’t think that the band didn’t make any noise during the corona era. The 20th anniversary of S&M – the infamous live album featuring the San Francisco Symphony orchestra – celebrated Metallica by re-energs with S&M2, which was released in August 2020. Since March 2020, fans can also enjoy the #MetallicaMondays on YouTube and Facebook, complete archived shows for the boring Monday night. In 2021 metallica’s eleventh studio album is pretty much finished and now that the first concerts have been announced, the Metallikoorts strikes again. Fast forward to 2022: Metallica is coming to Pinkpop again, so go practice for a few hours of Greatest Hits!

Together with NPO, NTR, BNNVARA, VPRO, NPO 3FM and 3voor12 we dived into the rich archives of the festival and were able to make a very nice selection of image and sound that we are happy to share with you.
