We know that you have been looking forward to Øya 2021. So have we. Therefore, it is difficult to tell that we have now made the decision not to host a festival this year. In recent months, we have held on to the hope that it would be possible to implement, but see that it does not work.
“It feels like a little nightmare to have to cancel the Island Festival for the second year in a row. Our biggest wish over the past year has been to bring together artists, audiences, festival workers, volunteers and collaborators for a unique festival experience in Tøyenparken, but it will not be possible with the framework that the authorities presented this week. There is too much uncertainty attached to the framework that exists, and even the “best case scenario” with 5,000 people is consistent with the audience experience Øyafestivalen will stand for. Thus, we have no choice but to realize that it will not be The Island in 2021 either. While we are sorry, it is a relief to be able to make a clarification to everyone who has been waiting for it. Now it’s just to roll up your sleeves and start over, again. We are already in the process of planning 2022 and promise you the festival comeback of all time in Tøyenparken 10. – 13 August 2022!”
Tonje Kaada, General Manager
Now we put all the focus and effort into the 2022 edition – the goal is to give you the very best version of Øyafestivalen ever. Ticket sales start on May 18, and the first artist slips are just around the corner. As many people choose to transfer their tickets, there will be far fewer tickets available than normal. So there’s no need to hesitate if you long for strong Øya experiences in 2022!
We would like to take this opportunity to thank ticket buyers and fans for their patience. Their support means an incredible amount. In addition, many people should be thanked for their willingness to cooperate and understand, including partners, suppliers, artists, hired workers, booking agents, Oslo’s year-round organizers, restaurants and cultural actors. We owe you all the Island Festival of all time in 2022.
