The Czech Republic offers a lot for adults, but this doesn’t mean children will be bored here. Here are some tips on entertainment for children in any weather.
Zoos – fun for the whole family
Zoological gardens are perfect for trips with children or friends. Besides animals, children can enjoy play areas, and the perfect zoo facilities allow you to spend the whole day long there. The Prague Zoo is regularly ranked among the top ten best zoos in the world in independent evaluations. You’ll find it in Troja in beautifully rugged terrain by the Vltava River. Dvůr Králové Zoo is in East Bohemia near Hradec Králové. This zoo specializes in African animals ― so you will find not only the biggest breeding program focused on African mammals in the Czech Republic, but also the only lion safari in the Czech Republic and in Central Europe! Other Czech zoos are in Liberec, Olomouc, Ostrava and Plzeň.
Museums for boys and girls
Recommending a museum visit to a family with children is a bold move ― but the museums we recommend are different and have children in mind as well. The National Technical Museum in Prague will delight young and old alike. The most popular area is the so-called “traffic hall”, with Czech and foreign cars, trains, planes, and other large equipment. Lovers of film special effects and animation must visit the Karel Zeman Museum at Charles Bridge. Children can “fly” on a flying machine, or “walk” on the Moon surface as seen by Baron Munchausen. Another tip is museums where fun comes hand in hand with learning. Touching exhibits is mandatory! That’s the basic advice when visiting the Brno VIDA! science theme park in South Moravia. Over 175 interactive exhibits are waiting for you and your curious children to investigate them, to better understand the world around us and to explain the basic principles of natural phenomena.
Fun in the Open Air
Who but children get the most out of beautiful weather? Head to the Czech Republic and have fun along with them. Mirakulum Amusement Park in Central Bohemia is one of the most popular spots for children. It features a forest park and petting zoo, giant trampolines and swings, rope parks, underground passages, playgrounds and much more. In South Bohemia you can go to Active Park Lipno, which offers outdoor activities for the entire family. The local Treetop Walkway (Stezka korunami stromů) is very popular; it has become one of the most-visited tourist destinations in South Bohemia and in Šumava. You can also enjoy plenty of adventure in the rope park, on the bobsleigh track, at the specially prepared Fox’s children’s bike area, or in pools with waterworks at Aquaworld Lipno.
